Ep. 1: The Queso Burg!

Hello! And, welcome! My name is Daniel—and if you are to know one thing about me, it is, in-fact, that I indeed do, LOVE to eat. And, although my pallet isn’t as experienced as some, I will at least try anything once. YOLO, BABY!

Follow along, as (I) Daniel Eats Food (document it) will feature all of the delicious food I come across—either out-on-the-town, or at home in the kitchen! So, whether or not you’re looking for an easy recipe or a clean, delicious place to eat—check out Daniel Eats Food!

I would not say that I have a preferred or favorite food or meal—I do have my go-to’s, though: Classic American (burgers/pizza/bbq), Italian (anything with a noodle and sauce), Asian (give me fresh and spicy)—and Mexican (TACOS duh). I hope to sample more ethnicities of food along my adventures!

Anyone who truly loves to eat—understands, that sometimes you have to cook your own favorite go-to’s. One particular meal that I enjoy eating is a Quesadilla Burger from Applebees—and it wasn’t something that I had yet attempted.

Quesadilla Burger from Applebees.

A couple of characteristics that I really enjoy about the Queso-Burg are the Jalapeños, Cheese, Tortilla(CRUNCH), Sauce, and Onions. I figure that if I can at least attempt to wrangle in some of those themes—I might be successful.

Instead of a “Burger”—as in, between two buns or in this case tortillas—I settled on an open face “burger”—something similar to a Tostada. One key ingredient that I missed was the sauce—Applebees serves it smothered in a relish-style fry sauce.

Next time, I will in-fact be whipping up a fry-sauce to go along with it—ketchup/hot sauce just didn’t suffice. I seasoned with a simple Salt & Pepper.

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Ground Beef
  • 1 Yellow Onion, finely diced
  • 2 Jalapenos, finely diced (seeds removed for milder flavor)
  • Flour Tortillas (quantity will vary based on the number of burgers)
  • Sliced Cheese (such as Cheddar or Monterey Jack), as needed
  • Salt, to taste
  • Pepper, to taste
  • Seasoning Salt, to taste

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the finely diced onions and all of the finely diced jalapeno innards with the ground beef, seasoning with salt, pepper, and seasoning salt until well combined.
  2. Form the beef mixture into patties of uniform thickness for consistent cooking.
  3. Preheat a skillet or grill over medium heat.
  4. Cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes per side until they reach the desired level of succulence.
  5. During the final minute of cooking, top each beef patty with slices of cheese, allowing them to melt.
  6. In a separate skillet, sizzle the remaining portion of finely diced onions and jalapeno slices until golden and caramelized.
  7. Fry the flour tortillas in the skillet until golden and crispy on both sides.
  8. Once the tortillas are fried, place a cheese-topped beef patty on each tortilla.
  9. Top each burger with the caramelized onions and jalapenos.
  10. Serve the Queso Burg immediately, with the burger poised majestically atop the fried tortilla, akin to a culinary work of art.
  11. Enjoy your exquisite creation!
